Of all the months in the year, I’ve always felt like October is the one that feels a little flat and forgotten.
After the new year buzz of January, and celebrations of love in February, everything bursts into life in spring, and marinates in the fun and sun of summer. In September we reset and refocus for the remainder of the year, and November and December are filled with fireworks and festivities and family time of thanks and cheer.
Poor old October has always felt a bit skipped over…the clocks change, the days get shorter, darker, and colder, and if we’re not careful it’s easy to slip into a bit of a slump.
But – what if this perceived ‘flat period’ is actually a golden opportunity that we’ve been missing, to lay the groundwork for a more abundant future?
Because, truth be told, we’re the ones that get to decide what each month, each day, each hour, each minute, and each second of our lives looks and feels like.
Every year the farmers provide us with a perfect analogy for what this month can be. They prepare the land for the next growing season – ploughing, pruning, clearing away debris, and preparing the soil that may lay fallow until the spring. We can also use October as a time of preparation by decluttering our minds, spaces, and finances.
Instead of it being the ‘flat’ month, how about championing October as the month where we start to appreciate the delicious cosiness of lamplight and lighting candles a little earlier in the day and taking time for reflection and preparation. Preparing our internal environment gives us space to weed out emotional blocks around money that can trip us up and hold us back, allowing a clearing of the way for future abundance.
Here’s some ideas to support you with preparing for financial abundance in the months ahead.
Decluttering your finances
Having a spring clean is something the majority of us have heard of and indeed done. There’s something incredibly cathartic about clearing out all the things that aren’t adding anything to our lives and having a good old clean. It resets our energy externally and internally in a really powerful way.
Something we don’t often think about though is having a financial declutter, which is why I’m getting excited by the idea of making October the month where we get all cosy and clean with our cash!
You see, one of the very best ways to make space for abundance to flow in, is to clear all the financial clutter out. Just like you do with old clothes or junk from your garage, tossing out outdated financial habits and unnecessary expenses can free up tons of space for financial growth.
To get the ball rolling, sort through your accounts, cancel unnecessary subscriptions, and create a clear plan for where your money is going.
I’ve gone into this in a lot more detail in an earlier blog: ‘Decluttering your Finances is Decluttering Your Life too’, so you can dive deeper into this over there.
Identifying and clearing financial blocks
When it comes to money, so many of us have hidden blocks. From fear of financial failure, limiting beliefs about our earning capabilities, to emotional spending and generational money stories, these blocks can be a huge barrier between us and the abundance we deserve.
Clearing emotional blocks around money requires quiet reflection. Start by grabbing your journal and asking yourself: How do I feel about money? If thinking about it brings up anxiety, stress, or fear, these emotions could be creating blocks to financial success, and they need to be addressed.
Begin by identifying any limiting beliefs. For example, do you believe that wealth is only for ‘other people’? Do you find yourself making excuses for emotional spending or feeling guilty about your financial situation? Beliefs and feelings like these can create a cycle of financial scarcity. But when you shine a light on them, you can start to clear the way for a much healthier relationship with money.
I also encourage you to please be gentle with yourself through this process. This is deep and important work, which is why many women choose to come into a coaching environment to do it rather than shying away and continuing to brush things away. Preparing for financial abundance
Once you’ve decluttered both your physical and internal financial environments, it’s time to prepare for the abundance that’s coming. Just like farmers prepare their fields for the next season, we can use this time to create a fertile environment for wealth and success.
Start by setting clear financial goals for the months ahead. What would financial abundance look like for you? Perhaps it’s saving for a big purchase, paying off debt, or simply feeling more in control of your money. Whatever it is, having a clear vision of what you want to achieve will help you focus during October and beyond (this is especially important when the craziest spending month of the year is still to come!!).
In addition to goal setting, affirmations can be a powerful tool for transforming your money mindset. Positive money affirmations such as: “I am worthy of financial abundance” or “I attract money effortlessly”, can help shift your mindset from scarcity to prosperity. Your affirmations need to be reminders that you’re capable of achieving your financial goals.
